We pay annually as well. However, we are on a calendar year so we get dues notices in November - December. Great timing.....I have a life membership in South Houston 1295. But I have 2 other lodges, Scottish Rite, Royal Arch, Shrine and clubs (S/R, Shrine, Past Masters and SoCal Research Lodge)...
I agree with you, my brother. I know that we are both residing in California, but, I was raised in South Houston, Texas. It would not matter to me if I lived anywhere else. No felons in Masonry.....period. I agree with California's application containing the background check. We're not hiding...
In California it is expected for officers to wear a tux during degrees and installations. It gets very hot in Redding during the summer...100 plus degrees can be normal. During that time, we relax to white shirts and dark pants. We also have some very nice collared golf type lodge shirts that we...
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
As I stated early on in this thread, the man made a choice and got a felony. I never met a criminal who wasn't misunderstood. There's always an excuse.
I'm 60 years old and have been a Master Mason for 34 years. Prior to becoming a Mason at the age of 26, and...
My vote is no. Masonry takes "Good Men" into our fraternity. We are not a rehab facility. Unfortunately, the person made decisions that affected his entire life. I'm happy that he has repented and has accepted Christ. But, I don't think that we compromise our fraternity.... ever. Masons have...
Brother Bill and Worshipful Master Kyle are right. It becomes a Grand Lodge issue that must be done between both Grand Lodges. Waivers of jurisdictions and timeliness would be taken care of with them. I agree that if possible, the candidate should try to attend a lodge in his home state to turn...
Congratulations Brother. The Marshall's seat is a good one to learn what all of the other officers do and their work. I'm sure that will be an asset to your lodge.
I had the privilege to present a brother with his Golden Veterans Award and 50 year lapel pin. Here in California, we recognize 50 and 75 year members. Inspectors (DDGM) present the 50's and the Grand Master presents the 75 year pins for obvious reasons. It was really good to have this brother's...
I have to agree. You need to know which GL has issued the Charter. I know that California frowns on any deviation to the ritual. We have two lodges who have had their Charter taken from them by the Grand Master this year alone. Just make sure that you are complying with Grand Lodge.
I need to add that I had to wear a top hat which I purchased. However, we have a very old one in the lodge that I wear simply because it was made by the John B. Stetson Hat Company. Bout as close to a cowboy hat as I could get.
Congratulations Brother Blake. Welcome to the group of "Has Beens". I know that I treasure my year as Master. But, I don't know if I want to do it again. I'm now a DDGM and that keeps me very busy. Some day I will learn to say "no". I doubt it though.
By the way, the California past masters...
Here in California, the Marshall interrogates the Entered Apprentice candidate before he is allowed to enter the preparation room prior to his initiation. The candidate must answer all questions correctly. The Marshall returns to the Lodge room and reports to the Master that the candidate has...
This coming Saturday, Reading Lodge #254 F.&A.M., here in Redding, CA will confer two 3rd. degrees out in the back woods of one of our brothers. We will start around 9:30am with the first candidate. I have the privilege to be King Solomon in both degrees. We should have a very good time.
As...
I remember when I went through the exam for the first time. I was really nervous. By the time that I got the 3 year certifcate, it was old hat. Good luck to you. I'm sure that you will do just fine.
