    Traditional observance

(I ain't got a dog in this fight). I am very interested in how the situation will play out in Texas, with respect to TO lodges. I hope that the movement can "take root" and TO lodges can operate, with support (or at least permission) from your Grand Lodge. TO lodges have met with genuine...

Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordinate lodges have a website?

Re: Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordina I know the feeling! In 1989, I proposed that my lodge get a telephone answering machine. Some of the membership did not see why the lodge needed one. After some months of study, the lodge finally permitted one to be installed.

Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordinate lodges have a website?

Re: Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordina I have seen some excellent lodge webpages. I have seen many bad web pages. The quality of lodge webpages varies. I get a little ill, when I see a webpage, and there is an event advertised that occured two years ago. Sadly, I believe that it...

It's about time! (A good read)

This is an excellent document, and should be mandatory reading for all Freemasons. I am continually astounded by the Masons I meet, in person and on line, who are convinced that there is no problem! When I point to the membership rosters, provided by the Grand Lodges, which show declines...

    Afghanistan Lodges

I am now at Camp Morehead, Afghanistan. This is a small camp, and there are only two(2) masons here, that I have found.

    Minding the West Gate?

Not all USA/Canada Grand Lodges forbid inviting good men to petition the Craft. And some Grand Lodges, permit Masons to inform men about the Craft. Virginia used to have a "You would make a good Mason", program, where Masons were encouraged to inform potential petitioners about the Craft, and...

Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordinate lodges have a website?

Re: Should Grand Lodges mandate that all subordina You truly confuse me . I have read on various forums where you complain that a Grand Lodge should not dictate who and how a Mason contacts outside jurisdictions , I have read were you complain that a Grand Lodge should not dictate how many...

    Minding the West Gate?

There are some things in Masonry, that I have a difficult time "latching on" to. I have a friend, who has been a Mason for over 50 years. He has held many high offices in the York Rite. He is always "bitching", about the low "quality" of men who are petitioning the craft. He talks about "scum"...

    Minding the West Gate?

In most states, including my own state of Kentucky, it is very much against the rules to "encourage" a man to ask for a petition. Virginia (my state of residence) used to have a "You would make a good Mason" program, where Masons were encouraged to bring up Masonry in conversations with men who...

    Minding the West Gate?

It is not my intention to "insult" anyone. I believe that you are missing the intent of my statement. Very few Grand Lodges permit or encourage inviting men to petition the Craft. My home state has even "banned" the '2B1 ASK1' bumper stickers. One state even forbids placing the square and...

Daylight lodges, what do you think?

It depends on the individual Mason, and the needs of the lodge to serve the membership. If you are working 8-5, mon-fri, and you have no "night blindness", and you can attend lodge in the evenings, then fine. But- What about our older brothers? Men who are retired, but have "night blindness"...

    Minding the West Gate?

The phrase "guarding the West Gate", has many meanings and implications. Since admission to the Craft is by unanimous ballot, each man has an equal responsibility in determining admittance to our Craft. The newest MM, and the most senior man in the lodge have equal votes! Since we do not...

Daylight lodges, what do you think?

As the population of Masons ages, we are most certainly to see more Masons who are unable to get out at night. And in cities where the commute time is long, professional men can't get out to night meetings as often as they used to. What do you think about "daylight lodges", where Masons can...

    Feeling offended

There are many people who have serious problems with Freemasonry. They even hold conventions. I have been to two of them, St. Louis and Atlanta. I wrote an article about anti-Masonry for the Scottish Rite Journal. You might mention to anyone who is opposed to our Craft, that the Nazis shut...

What would you like to see changed in the Masonic experience?

Re: What would you like to see changed in the Maso Do NOT set your Square and Compasses Club up as a "Masonic" organization. Do NOT restrict the membership to Masons. In your articles of incorporation, state clearly that "membership is restricted to individuals who are interested in...

    How 'bout active blood donors?

I remember seeing a lapel pin for sale some years ago. It was a blood drop, with a square and compasses in gold. I thought, what a terrific incentive to have these pins for a Masonic blood drive. Our lodge tried a blood drive at the lodge building some years ago. We did not get much participation.

What would you like to see changed in the Masonic experience?

Re: What would you like to see changed in the Maso There may be a loophole for your fund-raising. Set up a "Square and Compass Club" . Incorporate as a non-profit corporation. State in your articles of incorporation, that your organization is NOT affiliated with the Grand lodge in your...

    How 'bout active blood donors?

When I was on active duty in the Air Force, I got a three day pass every time I gave a pint. So I was at the head of the line every 6 weeks. When I was in college, I gave blood a lot, no days off, I just got into the habit. But in 1983, I started doing international work. I have had so many...

What would you like to see changed in the Masonic experience?

Re: What would you like to see changed in the Maso One change I would love to see: Almost everyone agrees that our "retention" rate is unacceptable. We lose more members to resignations/demits/suspensions, than we do to deaths. Solution- modify the retention rate. We need to work with each new...
