    Joining the Rite

Buy the rituals and read them. I was kind of disappointed with my York Rite degrees, due to how rushed they were, until I started reading the rituals and realized the sheer amount of information contained within them. Now that I've read through the rituals, I have gained a genuine love for the...

3 Black Balls Vs 1 Black Ball

Our entire investigation, recommendation, and voting process, in my opinion, is broken. I can't tell you how many times I see a guy walk in off the street, ask for a petition, and several guys in the lodge scramble to write their name on his petition stating they've known him a month or so just...

    Masonic Books

If you wish to step away from just the history of the fraternity, and explore some of it's deeper esoteric meaning; I suggest the following for starters. 1. Freemasonry and it's Ancient Mystic Rites - C.W. Leadbeater 2. The Meaning of Masonry - W.L. Wilmshurst 3. Jewel Lightfoot's Commentaries...

    San Antonio Scottish Rite

I am in San Antonio with my wife this week, and it seems there was a Reunion taking place. My wife and I stopped in to see the Temple here, and several brothers were kind enough to show us around. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to show us a beautiful piece of Texas history! It is...

3 Black Balls Vs 1 Black Ball

It hasn't been that long since we went to 3 black balls. In reality, all we'd be doing is reversing a previous decision, not following other jurisdictions.

Sad news from Onion Creek 220

We got the exact same package, and so have several other lodges near us in Tarrant County.

3 Black Balls Vs 1 Black Ball

Most jurisdictions have a 1-black ball rule. Texas is one of few who does not have that rule. I don't think it's really that big of a deal.

3 Black Balls Vs 1 Black Ball

Excellent. That's a good start. Maybe after that starts to finally happen we can start facing reality and begin consolidating the unneccesary bloat of lodges we currently have.

3 Black Balls Vs 1 Black Ball

And I don't agree with letting one bad apple destroy a lodge from within. The West gate has stood unguarded for far too long, and Masonry has suffered devastating blows from the negligence of the brothers who have absconded their duties. Are there crappy examples like your grandad's? Sure...

Is the Commandery too difficult for most Masons?

I am a young Mason (31), who joined the York Rite this past year. I enjoyed the Commandery degrees thoroughly; but I was pretty disappointed upon completing the Order of the Temple degree and learning that the perceived purpose of Commandery by the brethren there assembled, was doing drills and...

Shriners, Scottish Rite or York Rite

The Scottish Rite is French  This is easy for me. Personally, I have zero interest in the Shrine. It offers no learning or education whatsoever from what I've seen and been told, however, it does offer multitudes of fun fraternal and charitable activities if that's your thing. I have...

    R:.W:. P:.G:.M:. Orville L. O'Neill

I spoke to MW Carnes yesterday, and he said RW O'Neill is recovering and doing much better. He also confirmed that he only had stints put in, and did not have a heart attack as previously incorrectly reported by me.
